KYCRA Logo Redesign

Logo Redesign, 2o23

I was approached with the opportunity to redesign the logo of the Kentucky Court Reporter’s Association (KYCRA).

I was tasked with updating the organization’s logo  to have a more modern and tech-driven feel compared to its previous iteration (second image). KYCRA’s board of directors requested that the internal images of the original logo be somehow reintegrated into the new logo, additionally emphasizing the importance of keeping the silhouette of the state in the background. They tasked me with researching the visual identity of a similar national-level organization, the National Court Reporter’s Association (NCRA), as we both agreed that the sleek and graphic design of the latter organization (third image) fit with their long-term visual goals.

For the final logo (first image), I decided to update the organization’s overall color palette from the original monochromatic gold with the addition of a dark royal blue to both adjust for contrast and readability at smaller sizes. In order to incorporate the internal images of the original into the new logo, I decided to take inspiration from NCRA’s single stenography key in my own iteration with the whole keyboard overlaid in the logo’s state silhouette. I felt that this was the best solution to fulfill the clients’ wants to keep the original elements, while also preventing the logo from becoming too busy. Finally, I decided to use a hero font reminiscent of the original logo design, as I felt that the serif brought a level of detail and sophistication to the organization’s overall branding.
