“WHAT IS FASCISM?” is a zine project I designed for myself over the course of my final printmaking class at the University of Kentucky. I decided to design this zine to answer its titular question. It is important to me that in the day and age of mass misinformation and overly saturated news sources that global, national, and local citizens are able to understand highly politicized concepts, such as accurate use of the term ‘fascism.’

I noticed that many of my peers weren’t actually aware of the term’s definition and this prompted my research into how the average person can become more politically effective in a world that is so focused on national and international issues. This zine was designed for the purpose of making collegiate level resources often not easily accessible to the general public more available and easy to comprehend.

The minimal layout and text-based design is utilized to emphasize the zine’s content. The simplified color palette and rough serif type was chosen to harken back to Soviet Russian propaganda and other political fliers from that period.
